Accessibility statement

Byte Building is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities.

Our commitment

We believe everyone should be able to access information about our work and reach out to us. We design and build this website with accessibility in mind and continually improve it based on feedback, audits, and evolving best practices.

Conformance target

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

We measure our progress against these criteria and consider this site to be partially conformant. Some areas may not yet fully meet the standard, particularly where third-party content is embedded.

Features we have implemented

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper landmarks (header, nav, main, footer)
  • "Skip to main content" link as the first focusable element
  • Logical heading hierarchy on every page
  • Visible focus indicators and full keyboard navigation
  • Form fields with explicit labels, required-field indicators, and error messages announced to assistive technology
  • Color contrast that meets WCAG AA for normal text (4.5:1) and large text (3:1)
  • prefers-reduced-motion support that disables non-essential animation
  • Descriptive alternative text on images that convey meaning, and decorative images marked as such
  • Responsive design that supports text resizing and reflow at 320px without loss of content
  • Touch targets sized appropriately for mobile use
  • ARIA attributes on interactive components (tabs, dialogs, navigation menus)

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some content on the Site may have accessibility issues we are still working to resolve, including:

  • Embedded third-party content (such as our optional chat widget) may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. You can disable optional embeds through the cookie settings panel.
  • The "Windows 95 demo" experience at /filesystem is an intentionally retro, non-essential entertainment surface and is not held to the same WCAG conformance target. The rest of the site remains fully accessible.

Compatible assistive technology

The Site is designed to be compatible with recent versions of:

  • NVDA and JAWS on Windows with Chrome, Firefox, or Edge
  • VoiceOver on macOS Safari and iOS Safari
  • TalkBack on Android Chrome

Formal complaints

If we are unable to resolve your concern through our feedback process, you may have additional options under applicable law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the United States. We encourage you to first contact us so we can address the issue directly.

Continuous improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We review this Site for accessibility regularly, both through automated testing and manual review with assistive technology. We update this statement as the Site evolves.

Notice. This statement reflects our good-faith effort and current understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA. It does not constitute a legal warranty of full conformance. Please use the contact above to report any specific issue, and we will work to fix it.
